"Busselton ED"

About: Busselton Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child split their chin open going over the handlebars of their bike on the way home from school.  They have a big fear of needles. Peter the ED doctor was so calm and gentle with him the whole time.

As we know, fear is not a rational response and you can't rationalize with a child who is genuinely scared.  Peter's empathy, calming tone and constant reassurance to my child, meant he could problem-solve to use the numbing liquid first so we could address the injecting of the local anaesthetic into my child's chin so it could be stitched up.   Thank you Dr Peter - and as always the nurses and awesome admin. Narelle got my child through Triage quickly too.

Dear aurigaqh75,

I do hope that your child is recovering from their injury after falling from their bike.

I’m delighted that Dr Peter was able to reassure your child and ensure that it was not such a traumatic experience for them.

Hopefully this may help with their fear of needles for the future.

The team work together and all learn from each other in how to listen to and manage patients' and parents' feelings and fears.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and I have passed your words on to the whole team.

Warm Regards,

Caroline Booker
