I presented to Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital (KRH) a few months ago with my infant child. I had previously presented to the local GP twice, Population Health for my child's 8 wk check and an online GP.
They had severe eczema since about 2 weeks of age which was delaying their growth and development.
Not once did we get treatment or help from any of the above! I was told at our visit to KRH emergency department (ED) that our baby was looked at by the paediatrics specialist but the Head of Paediatrics confirmed that they weren't, despite their growth obviously being affected.
It was not until we had many comments about how little they were, someone even thought they were a newborn that we called Population Health in Boulder. We met a child health nurse who was extremely concerned. They referred us to the Child Development Centre to see a dietitian.
It was from here that the child health nurse took photos to the Head of Paediatrics with our story. They asked us to present to Emergency at KRH where they would ensure the ED doctors would actually call paediatrics this time.
Here we met a Paediatric Dr from Perth, the team at KRH paediatrics department nurses and Head of Paediatrics.
These guys in the paediatrics department have saved our child from any more pain! A lot more than I can say for the original ED doctor that turned us away and didn’t even pick up the phone to discuss it with the Head of Paediatrics!
"Lack of immediate treatment for my child"
