"Wonderful staff"

About: Northam Health Service / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a molar extracted at the dentist recently, my face was swelling and I had extreme pain in my face. I attended Northam Hospital Emergency Department (ED) a few days later. They gave me an injection for pain and suspected it was an infection. They also gave me antibiotics. I attended the dentist a few days later in extreme pain, it was a possible dry socket which they’ve repacked.

I attended Northam Hospital Emergency again. They gave me needle for pain, blood tested, x ray and finally, a CT Scan. I was given oxycodine and was sent home after midnight as CT Scan results were not in. I was asked to phone back for results in morning so I called Northam Hospital for results. I told them I was going to see the dentist again and they informed me to get the dentist to phone them and they would fax my results. The dentist checked my mouth and said everything was healing nicely, but I was still in extreme pain. By the afternoon I rang Northam Hospital again, they said if you go to a dr or the hospital in my area, get them to phone us and we will fax the results rather than that come over to Northam ED. Being in extreme pain I decided to go the nearest hospital’s Emergency Department (ED). I’m in extreme pain tears running out of my eyes and I was visibly upset, obviously in pain, a nurse took my obs, I wasn’t there for pain killers I was there to find out what is causing this pain. I ended back at Northam ED.

The results of the CT scan is I have a fracture in my jaw.

Northam staff absolutely wonderful. Especially the young triage lady Gail I think her name is, will be writing to them how wonderful they were in feedback to them.

Dear aquilage36,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

I was so pleased that the team at Northam were able to assist you in your time of need by providing pain relief whilst undertaking tests and imaging to determine what the cause of the pain was. It can be a very stressful time when you don’t know what is wrong.

The staff at Northam strive to provide high quality and compassionate patient centered healthcare and this was clearly reflected by our experience.

I will take great pleasure in passing on your kind words to the team with special mention to the triage nurse as well as my own appreciation, as I know they will appreciate the acknowledgment.

Thank you again for taking the time to write and hope that you are well on the road to recovery.

Best wishes

Regina Michel-Huessy

Acting Regional Director Wheatbelt
