Fierce road bumps

I feel the new roads bumps inserted at Busselton Health Campus are so fierce that even very slowly crossing them gives a sharp jolt.

My spouse has several painful broken bones and every one of those jolts is extremely painful. I dread to think what someone with internal injuries would suffer. Safety is important but I believe that whoever selected or designed these bumps could not have properly tested their effect on patients - it's a hospital after all.

P.S. the staff at this hospital are superb.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us on Patient Opinion.

I acknowledge your concerns regarding the installation of speed humps at the Busselton Health Campus and I am sorry that your spouse has experienced discomfort when you have navigated these.

The speed humps have been installed to improve pedestrian safety and minimise the possibility of a serious accident from occurring within the grounds of our health campus. We have found that speeding has become an issue with some vehicles travelling well above the 20 km/ hr on a daily basis and that vehicles have not been stopping at the pedestrian crosswalks, resulting in a number of near misses to pedestrians.

While the speed humps comply with the Australian Standards and have been installed at other hospitals, I have requested that our engineering department undertakes a review of the speed humps with the possibility of a reduction in their height. We will also be changing the speed signage to a slower speed.

Pleasingly, we have seen a change in the speed of motorists since the introduction of the speed humps.

I am very glad to hear that you find the hospital staff superb as the team strive to provide the best care for all patients.
