"Emergency"

About: Great Southern Health

(as the patient),

Went up to emergency with a very sore back. Waited 4 hours and didn’t get to see anyone. Was in excruciating pain sitting in the chair and eventually had to leave cause I couldn’t bear the pain anymore. Very disappointed in the communication and the fact I had asked to lie down as it was too painful to sit and that apparently wasn’t possible.

Dear Frustrated555

I’m very sorry to learn of your recent experience in the emergency department. I do hope that your back is feeling much better.

The emergency department is frequently a busy environment with many seriously unwell patients. When our patients arrive in emergency we assess how urgently they need to be seen according to their condition. We will treat those in a more serious condition as a matter of priority. We appreciate that many people are waiting in discomfort and we will see and care for our patients as quickly as we can. We endeavour to provide as much comfort as possible to all our patients while they wait for treatment.

I would value speaking with you about your experience. In particular I would welcome your feedback on how you think we could improve our communication. My number is 9892 2355.

Thank you for sharing your experience on Patient Opinion.

Kind regards

Vicky Besier

Clinical Nurse Manager, Emergency Department, Albany Hospital.
