"No treatment"

About: Hedland Health Campus

(as the patient),

I was taken to Hedland Health Campus recently for injuries related to mental health. The doctor prescribed me 500mg Panadol and 30mg codeine, with no instructions. I am suffering from a concussion - even though the doctor knew I received blunt forced trauma to the head, neck and shoulder.

The doctor asked me to clamp down on a stick to see if my jaw was broken, and I complained about sore teeth. I asked them three times I believe for an ice pack, and no one gave it. That night I complained of migraines, I couldn't sleep, my shoulder was swollen and I have only taken three of the pills over two days. I was discharged without any of my other injuries being examined.

The registered nurse that took me through triage was very rude in my opinion, and even though I said I came in early this morning with police, they still asked me what was wrong in front of the other patients. I said I was hit repeatedly because I was in so much pain. I hadn't slept for 38hrs and complained about a sore head, lack of eating, having vision issues. I also suffer from anxiety and had said I didn't take my medication for the past two days. They gave me Nurofen, codeine and diazepan for sleeping, put a sling on me and told me to come back in the morning. I did not return as yet again I requested an ice pack, and no one gave one. I am too scared to return, even though I believe I am suffering from a concussion.

Dear apusky74,

I am very sorry to hear about your recent experience at Hedland Health Campus Emergency Department and the distress it has caused you. We try to ensure that we treat every person with dignity and respect and provide a safe space for people to come to, whatever their concern. The experience you have described is certainly below the standards of care we strive for, and for this I apologise. I would like to look into the matter personally and would greatly appreciate it if you could reach out to us at WACHS-Pilbara.Feedback@health.wa.gov.au or on 9174 1040. Your details will help us identify any problems with our service and prevent this from happening again.

I also urge you to return to the ED for further review or see your GP for ongoing health concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to us, and I hope to hear from you very soon.

Kind Regards,

Yvonne Bagwell

A/Operation Manager, East Pilbara
