About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Rheumatology Department

(as the patient),

After a 3 year wait to see Neurosurgery at FSH, it was recommended by them that I see a Rheumatologist and the Pain Management Department.

The Rheumatologist rejected the referral and said to see Neurosurgery and the Pain Management Department. The Neurologist then said to see Rheumatology. Rheumatology rejected the referral again. I already saw the Pain Management Department!

Who actually triages referrals and why don't different departments talk to each other? And if neither department will see me, what am I to do?

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback on your wait to see specialists at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Without your specific details I am unable to look into your situation to see what has occurred. I can advise that Rheumatology provides services across the state, with FSH receiving large numbers of referrals. As a result, the Rheumatology service is unable to accept all referrals to the service and may have to refer patients back to the GP or to other specialities. There are comprehensive health pathways in place to assist GPs in managing their patients’ care.

Again, without your details, I am unable to determine why your referral to Neurology was not accepted.
