I am a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) worker in Meekathara and became ill at work with gastro. After 2 days quarantined in my donga at camp, my condition was worsening and the medic made the call to have me transferred to Meekathara Hospital.
I was weak, very sick and I will admit a little scared when I arrived at the hospital. Things only seemed to worsen, for me, when the gastro decided to unleash its fury on me when I was fully clothed and being assessed. I was now humiliated, sick, sad, in pain, scared and now covered in filth, but all that was about to change.
The staff at the hospital were absolutely amazing. Over the next 5 days, they cared for me with warmth, compassion and understanding. They communicated and assured I understood what was going on with me and what treatments I was to undertake. Nothing was to much trouble and they made me feel safe and cared for.
I also observed that same high level of professionalism and compassion with other patients that were being cared for in my ward. This positive vibe seemed to reverberate through the whole hospital, even the food was delicious and was always served with a caring smile and a "how ya going luv".
I cannot thank the hospital staff enough for all their support and hard work my family feel the same way and were relieved to know I had been looked after so well. So once again from the bottom of our hearts thank you all for your kindness, care and devotion. It has been fantastic and positive experience.
