"TeleHealth Conferencing"

About: Albany Health Campus / Seniors Health and Community Rehabilitation Telehealth Service - WACHS Great Southern

(as the patient),

TeleHealth is now a brilliant Service available at my local Hospital in Albany. This avoids previous PATS (Patient Assisted Travel Schemes) transfers and flying with an escort, just for usually a 10-minute consult with a Perth Surgeon or Specialist. Now avoids the PATS costs, usually a 14-16 hour day, and often very painful experiences - sitting in a transit wheelchair for this time - plus, often a long wait in clinic waiting rooms &/or transport back to airport terminals.

I feel TeleHealth is very worthy of my commendation.  Why did this not happen sooner? Re your question "How Do I Feel" - Somewhat elated. TeleHealth has proved to be a vital Service in my opinion and saved me many long days by not being sent again to Perth.

Just for your information, Perth once advised me that my scans were a bit "fuzzy" and was asked if I could please pop-in for a quick redo during my lunch break the next day. It seemed they did not know that I live in Albany and where that is or what attendance might involve. TeleHealth is, therefore, proving to be a great initiative; saving cost, time & much inconvenience.

Dear sherlock,

I am so pleased to hear that you are benefitting from the Telehealth Service and that it is having a positive impact on your health care. Travelling to and from Perth must have been exhausting and takes a lot of time and energy for a relatively short consultation with the specialist.

The WA Country Health Service have been building on their Telehealth services since it was established in 2012. We are now fortunate to have access to telehealth services for Emergency Medicine, Mental Health, Inpatient and Outpatient services.

In response to your question of why it didn’t happen sooner, we encourage anyone that has an appointment with a Perth specialist to contact their clinic (or their Regional Telehealth Officer on 9892 2341) and request to have it as a Telehealth appointment. Your generous act of taking the time to let us know how much you value the service is helping to pass on this message, so thank you.

Kind regards

Rebecca Weadon

Regional Telehealth Coordinator, Great Southern
