"Visitor area"

About: Northam Health Service

(as a relative),

My parent's spouse and I were visiting my parent at Northam hospital (they had just been transferred from 3 weeks in another hospital).

My parent was being showered so we went looking for somewhere to sit so we didn’t get in the way but unfortunately, there wasn't anywhere in the ward.

While we were looking for somewhere to sit, my parent fainted and the alarms sounded. The staff found an office for us to sit in while they checked my parent out. Staff had to move out so we could use the area.

It would be good if a small visitors area was available for these times. The staff were very caring and kept us informed of what was happening.

Dear crocodilehq55,

Thank you for sharing your story concerning your recent experience at the Northam Health Service.

I was sorry to read that your parent had fainted in the shower, but pleased to hear staff responded quickly to the alarm and you found them caring and informative and would really like to hear from you to ensure no harm came to your parent following their fall.

If you are comfortable with this, please call me on (08) 9690 1315 or via email Trenton.greive@health.wa.gov.au if you prefer.

I wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused in trying to find somewhere to sit whilst your parent was attended to.

I have spoken with Ms Jenny Lee, Manager of Clinical Services regarding your suggestion and we have put aside a room in the ward for immediate use by family and visitors as a waiting area, with some further comfort upgrades to the room planned over the next couple of months.

Again thank you for sharing your experience and do hope that we talk soon.

Best wishes

Trenton Greive

Operations Manager- Western Wheatbelt
