"Downhill skateboarding with no shoes!"

About: Margaret River Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I left a tavern at close. Having had a few beers we went to the river where I took my shoes off. After being there for half an hour we left for home. On the way, I decided I wanted to skate a hill, one I had done many times in the daylight!

In the early hours of the morning, I kicked into the hill. I made it to the bottom doing about 50km where I had the speed wobbles and flipped/cartwheeled, ripping my back, shoulders, knees ... worse fracturing, dislocating and exposing the bone out of the skin!

It was disappointing, mostly that I'm an adult and silly enough to skate drunk down a fairly big hill with no shoes!

Lesson learnt!

Big thank you to both the nurses and Dr. plus ambulance officers who made a hard experience as fun as it could be ;)

Dear Mr shouldnt skate,

Thank you for your account of your skateboarding adventure!!

Your injuries sound very painful but I am happy that the care you received was appropriate.

In retrospect, we can all be clever, including wearing shoes while skating!

I do hope however that you are recovering from your injuries and we wish all the very best in the future.

Yours sincerely
