"Refused to be tested for Coronavirus"

About: GPs in the Perth Electoral District PathWest Perth Collection Centre

(as the patient),

I was at an international gathering of a wedding for several days in the last month, with hundreds of guests, many from UK, Kenya, Dubai, Singapore and India.

I believe a very large percentage of guests have now been struck down with a fever, extremely dehydrated, painful lungs and aggressive coughs and painful dehydration headaches on top of the head and extreme lethargy.

I contacted my local hospital, who diverted me to a pathology service for a blood test. The pathology service said I needed a direction from my doctor. I called my doctor's surgery and was told that because I myself did not travel overseas, I was not eligible for the blood test.

This seems to be an extremely contagious, severe lung and dehydration virus. I feel it needs to be investigated ASAP. There were hundreds of people at this wedding who could be carrying. Normally I would not be so worried, but in the light of the spread of COVID, In my opinion, this is extremely suspicious and I believe the Government is not intervening.

Dear Z,

Thank you for your feedback. Whilst I understand there is a lot of concern around COVID-19, and many people like yourself would like the assurance of a negative test, any pathology provider is unable to collect and perform the test without the required referral from a medical practitioner. This is a legal requirement. The department of health does have a very comprehensive website for information on Coronavirus (COVID-19) that can be accessed here:

https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Coronavirus

You are also able to call the Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080 to discuss your personal health concerns with a medical professional.

Kind regards,

Tracy
