"A valuable service"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

I have visited the ED dept at Albany Health Campus twice, with my ill parent in law, in the last two weeks. Staff are fantastic. In particular, the volunteer helpers who are very kind and gentle with patients and their relatives. It was great to have someone ask if you were ok or if you needed a cup of tea. A valuable service that I would love to see continue.

Dear Peggy11,

Thank you for sharing your great feedback about Albany Health Campus on Patient Opinion. I am delighted to know that you think the staff are fantastic.

Thank you also for recognising the great support that the Emergency Department Blue Jays volunteers are providing to our patients, their families and carers through conversation and activities. This initiative is the latest addition to the Albany Health Campus volunteer family which started with The Friends of Albany Health Campus, established as a charity in 1963 to raise money for the then Albany Hospital.

The Friends continue to coordinate fundraising activities, including running the hospital shop, to assist the hospital with the purchase of equipment and improve facilities. In the 2018/2019 financial year Friends donated $48,000 to the hospital; $20,000 of which went towards building and furnishing the newly opened and much enjoyed Cancer Services Conservatory. We are also fortunate to have the Meet & Greet volunteers at reception, the dementia Sunflowers volunteers and the volunteer-run Radio Heartbeat that has been providing entertainment for patients at Albany Health Campus since 1997.

Albany Health Campus currently has 100 dedicated volunteers who between them contributed approximately 10,000 hours to support the hospital last year.

We aim to continue to provide these wonderful volunteer services and new volunteers who are friendly, patient and empathetic are being invited to join the program at Albany Health Campus. Ongoing support and training will be provided and those interested in volunteering can call 9845 8759 or email ahc.volunteers@health.wa.gov.au

Kind regards,
Juan Clark
Operations Manager
