"My parent goes into residential care"

About: Denmark Health Service / Residential (NHTP)

(as a relative),

Recently my family had to make the difficult decision to accept a place in Residential Aged Care for my parent, and this week they moved in. I believe anyone who has been through this process will agree that it is heart rending and difficult time, full of stress and emotion for all concerned.

The staff at Blue Wren Lodge were all simply amazing! They provided us with information, took their time and were careful to ensure that my other parent was fully informed of everything. They were available to answer all of our questions and encouraged my other parent to visit in advance to reassure themselves. The Manager Shirley was extremely helpful and careful to check our understanding at each step. She spoke with each of us in person and on the phone, never rushing us, just providing reassurance.

On the day of the move, my parent was able to drive themselves in their Gopher and the staff were there to provide both practical and emotion support.

We were all welcomed so warmly, it felt like my parent was joining an extended family.

Thank you Blue Wren and Denmark MPS! Wonderful.

Dear Dignity,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this lovely feedback which I have shared with Shirley and her team. It is very difficult supporting a family member to transition into residential care so we do our best to assist in this process.

We are also very aware that we are providing a home to the Residents of Blue Wren Lodge so we strive to maintain a safe, yet homely environment. As you will have probably experienced, our Residents are in general a close-knit community of elders and we hope that your parent is feeling welcomed by them as well as the staff.

With best wishes.

Julie Hollingworth,

Director of Nursing/ Health Service Manager

Denmark Health Service

WA Country Health Service Great Southern
