"Feeling ignored"

About: Central Gippsland Health Community Services Sale Hospital / Women's and Children's

(as the patient),

I felt I was completely ignored when asking about my symptoms (itchy hands and feet). I was made to do my own GBS swab, even though I did not want to do the test at all.

I believe incorrect information was written on my paperwork.

I feel the midwives/Obs spoke about me but not to me, ignored me for their phones and told each other what they would be doing to me and I felt they ignored me when I told them that I wouldn’t consent to those things.

I was ignored while the ob sat at the desk and I believe screwed around on google on both their phone and computer. It seemed the Ob also was coughing openly, did not cover their mouth and did not wash hands.

Dear piscespq83

My name is Kim and I am the Nurse Unit Manager of the Women’s and Childrens Unit.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. On behalf of my team I would like to sincerely apologise to you for our failure to meet your needs and the standard of care we at CGH aspire to.

Our aim at Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is to provide patient centred care so I was disappointed to learn the care you received did not meet the standard of care expected by our team.

Your story has identified what has not been done well, where improvements are needed and from these learnings, changes can be made for the betterment of future patient care.

Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your feedback further via email wac.num@cghs.com.au or phone (03) 5143 8150.

Sincerely,

Kim

Update posted by piscespq83 (the patient)

Thank you, Kim, I appreciate that more than I can put into words. I have been so afraid of going to my next appointment.

Knowing that changes can be made gives me hope that my next appointment will be a more positive experience.
