I had the worst experience of my life when I was transferred from my local Emergency Department to a Ward at Sir Charles Gairdner. I was in horrific pain upon arrival as I believe the ambulance did not have adequate medicine to manage my pain.
Upon arriving at the ward, I was given some tablets which seemed to do absolutely nothing. I spent the best part of an hour or two in pain until the doctor finally came in and insisted I be given something stronger. I was then given morphine which again did nothing. By the time I was taken for emergency surgery I was begging them to put me under, to finally get some relief from the pain.
I was told because I was in the ward, they were unable to treat me with the same pain relief I was previously getting in Emergency. If the staff were unable to treat my pain in the ward, I never should have been moved there in my opinion.
Now I am terrified every single day of my disc rupturing again and I will have to endure the traumatising pain all over again.
