"Controlling"

About: Resthaven Marion

(as a relative),

Resthaven, in my opinion, is far too controlling. It seems they don't let you visit for months, then they have only 30 mins of a visit and when I did visit for a window visit they would not give us any privacy at all. I felt we were watched the whole time.

The staff member, in my opinion, was very controlling and I believe was listening to our conversation. They even told the dog where to sit. It was not a good experience at all, in my opinion. My parent said they are always like that and they feel like they are in jail.

Dear paprikatn34,

Thank you for your comments about your visit to your relative at Resthaven Marion. We are sorry that you did not have a good experience.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are all learning how to best facilitate visiting in accordance with the State Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities No 3) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 – updated 21 April 2020.

Visitor restrictions at Resthaven Marion were first implemented 20 March 2020 and arrangements have been regularly reviewed. The current visitor restrictions took effect from 1 May 2020, where a maximum of one visit per day by up to two people to an individual resident for a maximum visit period of 30 minutes is permitted. Visitors must sign in on arrival and undertake screening before they can enter. This screening includes temperature monitoring and evidence checking to ensure a visitor has had their 2020 influenza vaccination, and visitors are to maintain 1.5 metres social distancing at all times. Compassionate reasons for a visit such as the end of life care continue.

A number of strategies have been implemented to assist our residents to stay connected with the important people in their lives; window visits being one of those. Ensuring a successful visit does often mean a staff member may be close by to assist with communication technology and other support for the resident. We are sorry if that felt intrusive and wish to reassure that staff are aware of and support resident privacy, their sole purpose in being present to support the resident’s experience. We hope your next visit will be a better one.

Another thing as well - my parent needs a wheelchair but I believe they refused it to them. I rang and said if you don't give my parent a wheelchair I will blame you if they fall and they still have not given my parent one. They said they will do it but I believe they then did nothing.
