"Staff attitude"

About: Narrogin Health Service

(as a relative),

I visited my parent in hospital between 7-8pm. A staff member came around to offer tea and coffee but we felt their manner was very off-putting. When my parent jokingly asked if there was any nice cake they, the staff member grunted no and left. I thought they may come back and offer my parent a biscuit as there was quite a selection on the trolley but they did not.

When coming back to collect the cups the staff member grunted You done? - and left. I understand it may have been late and they may have been tired, but my parent became very concerned that they had upset the staff member because their manner was so off-putting.  In my opinion, elderly patients who are in hospital for extended stays don't have much else to think about and a bright and cheery manner goes a long way. On the whole, the staff at the Narrogin Hospital are usually always so courteous and helpful, but on this occasion, I felt this staff member let the side down.

Dear scoreboardqz86,

On behalf of Narrogin Health Service, I want to extend my sincerest apologies for your negative experience you and your parent had with one of our staff members.

Our staff are committed to ensuring the needs of our patients are at the centre of everything we do and it was disappointing to learn the actions of one of our staff members left your parent feeling upset and concerned.

I agree the cheerful demeanour of staff providing care to patients while they are in hospital can make the experience either a positive or negative one, and I was heartened to learn that on the whole, the staff at the Narrogin Health Service was courteous and helpful.

I want to thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. We are always looking at ways to improve our service, and your feedback is an invaluable part of that process.

I would encourage you to contact me on (08) 9881 0413 so I may have the opportunity to investigate this matter further.

Kind Regards

Jenny Menasse
