"My methadone doctor"

About: GPs in the Melbourne Electoral District

(as the patient),

I had just been out of hospital with pneumonia for 3 days when I went to see my doctor. I was a bit frail and short of breath when I saw them. I have been on methadone and stopped using heroin in the last 15 months.

The doctor asked about my alcohol consumption and I told them I had been having 10 standard drinks twice a week since stopping my heroin use. I tried to tell them I had reduced this which I believe they failed to comprehend and while, I felt, yelling at me for at least 5 minutes, they proceeded to ring my pharmacist and reduced my takeaways from 4 a week to 2 a week.

As I am still struggling to breathe, I protested the doctor's decision. In my opinion, as a consequence of this, they rang a pharmacist from my chemist who has only served me once in the last 6 months (if that) and told them I was an alcoholic who needed to be told that alcohol and methadone don't mix.

I am aware of that and felt violated that they told the pharmacist something that wasn't true. For the record, I was only having a couple of drinks once a week and since being in, and coming out of hospital, have not drunk once.

I'm too crook and now have to get my doses while recovering from pneumonia. The hospital told me it will be at least 6 weeks before I recover, and due to, what I believe is the spiteful nature of my doctor, have to struggle to get my doses. I am too scared to put in an official complaint in case they penalise me further.
