About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My elderly parent was taken into emergency recently after a fall.

After all the scans, X-rays, stitches, etc. It seems they were left without even a cup of tea/sandwich. They had been there since mid-morning and didn't leave until approx mid-afternoon. I believe this isn't the first time this has happened. Even if they are busy, in my opinion, there must be someone who could offer some care to an elderly person while they are awaiting transport from an ambulance.

I am not impressed with this treatment.

Dear jazzdw94,

I am very sorry that your elderly parent was not offered any refreshments whilst in our care.

It is understandable that during the initial assessment/investigations that your parent would have been fasting, however, once they were fit for discharge we certainly should have offered something to eat and drink, which is part of the overall care we should have provided to your elderly parent. I would like to assure you that your feedback has identified our need for improvement of our processes to ensure this does not happen to someone else. Your feedback has been provided to the Nurse Manager in our Emergency Department to ensure that all staff are aware of the experience your elderly parent encountered as a patient at our hospital.

Once again thank you for bringing this to my attention and I am sorry that on this occasion we have not met you or your loved one’s expectations whilst in our care.
