"Covid-19 testing in a “clean hospital”"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Hi all,

I have a failing trabeculectomy and visited Sydney Eye Hospital for emergency care. I don’t feel comfortable sitting with patients waiting to have a Covid-19 test.

In my opinion, perhaps an idea is to isolate them from the patients waiting for eye care.

Dear jivejz77,

Thank you for raising your concerns, which are quite understandable. Covid-19 testing is conducted in all emergency departments statewide. This occurs under infection control procedures established by the Ministry of Health aimed to manage the risk of infection. You may also have noticed physical distancing guidance and reduced seating in the waiting room. These measures have proven effective in keeping patients, their families and our staff safe.

I trust your condition has improved, but should you require our services and are worried, do please ask the nursing staff in the emergency department or outpatients for guidance.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the reply, I have noticed reduced seating however no physical distancing between Eye/COVID patients. In my opinion, they need a dedicated area.

Furthermore to my recommendation above, seating is located directly outside the emergency department, I believe this seating that should be used, and is the level of physical distancing is required.
