"Years of addiction, Lives Lived Well and St Vinnie's Residential Treatment"

About: Lives Lived Well - Cairns St Vincent De Paul

(as the patient),

I was broken, trapped in my addiction. Running away was not an option. My past followed me. I was part of a game I no longer wrote the rules for anymore.

With support from my parent, I finally sought help. I heard Lives Lived Well's advertisement on the radio and thought I'd check it out. I was very scared, however, hopeful for change.

For around 5 weeks I attended weekly counselling before admitting my defeat. Lives Lived Well then referred me to Residential Treatment with St Vinnies in Cairns.

Within two weeks, I was admitted to residential treatment. The 12-week residential program at St Vinnie's is second to none. Since my discharge from the residential treatment I have continued with my recovery goals; employing all my learnt strategies for remaining abstinent from all substances - currently, 201 days clean today, have started studying, found employment and have repaired my relationships with family. I also facilitate regular NA groups.

I know this is early days for me, however, I have a very strong network of friends and professional supports. One other goal I am achieving is to share my story with others to prove that recovery is possible.

Hello Outflowzc84,

Thank you for telling us some of your story as a light to others that change is possible.

It is good to hear that staff at Lives Lived Well in Cairns were able to support you to find the treatment and care that enabled you to find the path to change at St Vinnie's Residential Care. From the description you have given us, your life and daily activities are sounding very different now. Well done on gaining employment and starting study, as well as repairing relationships with family.

I wish you all the best in your life ahead. It is 'early days' as you say and it is a new beginning as well.

Warm regards,

Gerard
