"Physical distancing from symptomatic people"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / 1 East (Ophthalmology)

(as the patient),

I truly cannot believe, in my opinion, the stupidity! I have been waiting at Sydney Eye Hospital reception due to a contact lens malfunction and now I'm worried I will leave with COVID.

There is a COVID test centre next door but I believe the patients displaying symptoms are waiting next to me! I believe they are openly stating they think they have COVID and coughing right next to me.

I addressed this with staff who I believe agreed it's not ideal and recommended I post a suggestion... I have no words.

Dear Contactlenswearer,

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate that Covid-19 is a concern for all of us at the present time, and want to assure you that our emergency staff have a great deal of expertise in the management of infectious diseases and infection control and prevention. Since your posting, the COVID Assessment Clinic has been located to another building, but be assured that all emergency departments conduct Covid-19 testing, and this is managed within infection control procedures that maintain a safe setting for our staff and patients. You may also have noticed physical distancing measures in place in the waiting areas.

Kind regards,

Alan
