"Leaving in pain"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I came to the emergency with severe pain to my right foot. I was assisted by the triage staff member who I believe could see I had difficulty walking from the car to ED.

The doctor that assessed me gave me the impression they were not interested and just wanted to send me home. I requested an x-ray but that was declined. I felt so humiliated limping out of the hospital without a proper diagnosis.

I felt the doctor just handballed it to see my GP and take some pain killers instead of trying to identify the problem. In my opinion, it was the most humiliating experience and I felt patronised. I was assessed in less than 5 minutes!

Dear cruxeb87,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your experience in the Emergency Department (ED). I am sorry to hear that the treatment you received at FSH ED did not meet your expectations on this occasion and I apologise that you left the ED with ongoing pain. While FSH is the busiest ED in the state, this is no excuse for leaving you feeling humiliated and patronised as this does not align with our values.

All patients are provided with discharge advice which includes seeking care from your GP if symptoms persist. There is also Health Direct and / or Urgent Care Clinics that can also assist with providing advice and care in situations like yours.

I wish you all the best with the recovery of your painful foot.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty
