About: Peel Health Campus / Surgical ward

(as the patient),

My operation was booked into Peel for later this year, my spouse is FIFO and had put in their time off for carers leave and was approved, their work changed their swing, accommodation and flights for them and me, so they can be home to support me and our children.

At last minute, I believe my surgeon's office was told no more overflow operations for out of catchment area. My surgeon has been doing these operations for 10yrs to assist in the influx and delays for patients and families. I believe they are now told they can no longer do this as it's costing far too much money. Really? People's lives are on the line.

I personally, am disgusted in the senior management of South Metropolitan Health. In my opinion, they should be stripped of their title, and perhaps even take a pay cut, then I believe we would be able to have our surgeries. None of us have put our hands up for this, we just need them to sustain our quality of life.

Dear Laeviva72,

My sincere apologies for the inconvenience experienced by you, your spouse and your spouse’s workplace following the cancellation of your surgery.

I recognise it would have been very frustrating to have plans in place to assist your recovery and to manage your household post operatively and to then have your surgery cancelled.

Recently, due to an administrative error, we had a number of surgery bookings inadvertently cancelled. Again I apologise for this but can advise that these surgeries have since all been reinstated quite quickly, yours included.

Hi Neil,

Thank you for your response, yes mine has been amended through thorough investigation and getting in contact with the correct people.

I do hope all others that were affected by this error are grateful. I hope that this gives others guidance to be able to correspond with the right channels for a favourable outcome.
