"Being supported by Breakthrough for Families"

About: Lives Lived Well – Breakthrough for Families Lives Lived Well - Spring Hill

(as a parent/guardian),

In seeking the best possible way that I as a parent could support a family member who lives with depression and dependency, I searched for help and guidance.

Our situation has been particularly challenging during the current COVID-19 crises, as my family member lives on their own in Melbourne and is therefore totally isolated from the rest of the family in Queensland.

After speaking with Ruth, and reading the Breakthrough for Families Queensland materials, I came to realise that as a loving family, we were not alone. There are others grappling with similar situations and equally important, there are places to turn to for advice and to help us to forge a way forward.

This Corona climate is certainly challenging for everyone - the isolation, uncertainty and increasing feelings of depression for many people. With borders closed, I empathise with you not being able to see your loved ones and encourage you to be strong.

We are very pleased to hear that you were able to talk to someone and access the Breakthrough for Families Queensland materials. More importantly that you found them helpful.

Keep communicating with your family - and let's all hope we can get through COVID and see eased restrictions and borders open in the near future.

Thank you for the comments you have made on Care Opinion.

As a parent, it is such a difficult task to support your loved ones through depression and dependency especially in this time where the impact of COVID-19 is present each day. It is great that you were able to find hope and support through Ruth at Lives Lived Well's Breakthrough for Families. It is often a very lonely journey for families so to find support on that journey is a real benefit.

I wish you all the best in the journey ahead for your family and hope the support of Lives Lived Well lightens the burden for you.
