"Poor triage assessment"

About: Joondalup Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I went to my doctor and said I have a weird fluttering sensation above my chest, around my heart. They did an ECG and said go to the hospital to get a blood test and a chest x-ray. I'm close to Joondalup so I went. The triage nurse left me in the emergency for three and a half hours. I left feeling sick and hungry.

The next day I went back to my doctor, they said to call an ambulance. After I described my symptoms to triple 0, they kept me talking while I waited for the ambulance. They arrived, did an ECG and rushed me to another hospital. When we arrived, they opened the rear door and there were 5 people in scrubs that took me to surgery. An hour later, I'm in a ward with a stent fitted in my heart. Thanks, Joondalup hospital and the triage nurse, for nothing

Dear disinfectantsg53

Thank you for posting feedback on the Care Opinion site regarding your attendance to the Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) Emergency Department (ED).

I am sorry to read about your experience. All patients attending JHC ED are triaged by a specialist trained Emergency Nurse using a combination of prompts determined by the College of Emergency Medicine. This same system is used by other ED’s across the country.

I take your concerns seriously and as part of this, I would like to offer you the opportunity to contact the hospital so that we can obtain further details from you and investigate your experience further.

Please contact consumer liaison on 08 9400 9672 or consumerliaison.jhc@ramsayhealth.com.au who can make the necessary arrangements.

I hope that you are now fully recovered and experiencing good health.

Best wishes,

Brendon Burns

Acting Director of Clinical Services

Joondalup Health Campus
