"Need a better process"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital

(as the patient),

I went to the eye hospital recently for an eye injection appointment. I go every 4 weeks. Because I'm a diabetic, when I walk on rough ground I feel like I am going to fall. I had to go to the Eye Foundation and had to walk up from the main street.

When I got there, they said I have to go down to the main hospital to have the injection and come back here to pay and sign forms. I said I have trouble walking and am frightened I’m going to fall. I also want to add that this is after the injections and my vision isn't good to start with. They said, you just have to do it or get a carer.

They took payment that time but said I have to make the trip back next time.

While I was getting the injection I asked why they changed the process. The staff member tried to explain it to me but it just wasn’t making sense. I can’t see why they can’t do the whole lot together like they used to.

Dear leohs99,

Thank you for your feedback. Screening of patients, visitors and staff who come onto the Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital Campus was commenced to maintain a safe environment and prevention of spreading COVID 19. This is conducted in a centralised area (main clinical building), so there is consistency in the screening process. We apologise for the necessity to change the process at this current time. Your feedback is valuable and we have shared this with Save Sight Institute.

We are committed to our patients care and realise this is a challenging time for all in the current COVID 19 environment. Please call me on 02 9382 7490 if you would like to speak further or need assistance on your next appointment.

Kind regards

Dr Pauline Rumma
