"Visitor restrictions"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Maternity Service

(as the patient),

I am booked in to have my baby at Box Hill Hospital, at my last appointment the midwife confirmed the current restrictions include the partner/husband having to leave within 2 hours of a c- section delivery.

I understand the need to manage visitors given the COVID situation and government-imposed restrictions, but in my opinion, this is ridiculous. I believe this is not consistent with government directions, the government restrictions say that your partner/husband can stay as long as they want on the day of the birth. Why the 2-hour restriction on the day of the birth?

I have already written a letter of complaint and just got a generic response that my feedback will be passed on. However, there has been no change in the policy and I have received no further information, despite requesting a response.

Dear greenrb45,

Thank you for taking the time to share these comments regarding both visitor restrictions and also the lack of further information or response to your letter of complaint.

Keeping patients, families and staff safe during the pandemic has been challenging for everyone and I'm sorry the need for this impacts our patients and families so much. Our staff often work with families to arrange specific visiting arrangements and I'm sorry this hasn't happened with you.

I'm sorry we have not met your expectations when you made your complaint. In order to create a plan for your planned birth, could I please ask if you can make contact again with the Patient Relations Advisor in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. By doing so we will arrange for you to connect with the senior leaders responsible for Eastern Health maternity services and agree the plan regarding visiting.

Many thanks and I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

David
