"My Aged Care experience"

About: Estia Health Mount Coolum

(as a service user),

I would like to start with the positives, the location is nice, the creek and the mountain. A few of the staff members were nice and helpful, obviously, they enjoyed their job.

The rest of my experience there was not enjoyable, the food, the cleanliness, care given, hygiene practices and general daily requirements at the facility, in my opinion, is in desperate need of staff that take pride in what they do and passion in their choice of employment.

The residents and their families pay for services that are offered in the brochure but in my opinion, I am sure they would be disgusted if they saw what services were actually given.

I am so pleased that I was able to leave there, and hope to never have to return to an aged care facility.

In my opinion, I realise most facilities blame the issues on being understaffed and underpaid, but having lived there, and based on my observations, I could clearly see and hear that some staff seemed lazy and had no idea of time management. In my opinion, they were too young and lacked training and compassion, I believe they thought they should be getting paid more so would avoid certain tasks.

I did speak to a person in a supposed position of authority about my thoughts on improving things, however, I doubt they cared in my opinion. It seemed the facility was happy to take my money and I was just another inconvenience to them. I was overcharged in excess of thousands of dollars, which luckily I was able to have returned. I believe it would have been way more if I had not been of sound mind.

Estia definitely needs to make improvements in my opinion.
