"Poor doctor care in A&E"

About: Canberra Hospital / Cardiology Canberra Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I spent a day recently in A&E after my GP sent me there. Got there at early in the morning and by pm, I had had enough of no action so I asked to be released. Got a discharge letter to take to my GP. Starved all day, had no food and no outcome and left.

Had an episode of chest pain, nausea and palpitations the next morning and got an ambulance to Canberra Hospital (TCH). The Drs on in the morning were great and did all the testing. Come the afternoon shift the new Dr came to me about mid-afternoon and told me that the morning one had gone and they ordered some antibiotics for something they picked up the day before. I never saw another Dr again. I sat waiting and waiting and waiting for the cardiologist registrar to talk to me to tell me what was going on.

I know it was busy but when they spent an hour and a half chatting and in my opinion, generally not working, I really got angry. The nurse had asked them twice to come and talk to me to tell me what was going on and what the outcome of tests etc had been. Crickets. The Dr then left A&E and after waiting 4 1/2 hours I asked that my canula be removed so I could go home if the registrar couldn't be bothered to take 5 minutes to talk to me, their patient. So now it is all left up to my GP to sort out once again. Not happy.
