I was admitted to the Emergency Department of Exmouth hospital in WA early morning recently. I was on holiday with my family and I traumatically crushed two of my fingers in an awning, badly lacerating and fracturing them. I was in horrific pain and shock.
From the moment I arrived at the department with my spouse, the nurses’ response, care and professionalism were outstanding while I waited for the doctor on call to attend.
When doctor Patel arrived he proceeded quickly and the team worked together seamlessly to get me x-rayed, my lacerations cleaned and bandaged and the results sent to Perth. They then organised my flight that morning to Perth for surgery. I was on a flight only 4 hours later.
As I was in shock, I do not remember all the names of the nurses, though Rachel does stand out to me (she let me crush her hand while I was being injected and spoke calmly to me!) The other nurses were fantastic, one spending a great effort to cut my rings off. There was also a trainee doctor there who spoke to the hospital in Perth. He was fantastic.
I want to thank these people from the bottom of my heart as they made a traumatic experience less so because of their outstanding care and teamwork, respect for me and each other and very importantly for me... a great sense of humour.
Yours sincerely.
