My husband passed away recently, and I just wanted to thank the NurseWest staff member who was assigned to the room he was in for the support she gave me when I arrived on the ward early in the day to see him after he died.
She was compassionate, mindful of how I was feeling, and filled me in on a bit of what happened overnight that helped me gain some closure. While I would have loved to have spent his last few hours with him, knowing a little of what happened does help. What is the policy in regards to finding out a relative has passed and what the relative said or did? I feel like I'm missing something in terms of information...not the agency staff members fault I might add.
I was surprised, however, on something. There was the plan to transfer my husband to a hospice the day he died. Obviously, that was not to be, but I was a little confused as to why he was transferred from one room to the room next door (It sounds so minor, I know) when I believe the initial plan was to transfer him the next day? Just struck me as a little bit peculiar.
