"The Positive Birth Program"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Recently in the lead up to expecting our first child's arrival we were offered to participate in the positive birth program run by some midwives in the South West. We were amazed by what we learnt and the positive spin they had of the time of labouring and birth and made us feel particularly relaxed and excited for the birthing experience. They offered us helpful tips for making the baby as well as the mother feel relaxed as well as offered some amazing tools for how the birthing partner can feel helpful to the mother as well as be a really great support. We would love to see these classes made available to couples in all areas as I believe they are not only a great education tool but I feel also make the lead up to your child's birth a lot more enjoyable.

Dear orangeew73,

COVID has certainly brought with it some challenges but it has also created some fantastic opportunities. We are very fortunate that Bunbury have been able to continue providing the antenatal classes, adapting to the online antenatal classes’ format. It has enabled us to ensure greater access to the comprehensive program for families across the state.

I am excited that you took the opportunity to participate in the classes. I am hopeful, as COVID policies are reviewed and amended to meet the conditions at the time, that we can reintroduce face to face classes utilising this birth program. Until then Bunbury will continue to provide the positive birth program across WA country, ensuring accessibility to as many women and families as possible.

I wish you and your partner all the best with your birth journey ahead of you and I know the tools and strategies taught in the class will hold you in good stead as you start your next chapter into the exciting world of parenting. Take care.
