"A Spiral Degloving of Left Leg!"

It was a Friday heading into along weekend. I was manoeuvering our partially loaded 6 x 4 trailer so that I could shift our caravan to a better position to head off on a weekend with family! It was to be a celebration of our Mother's life!

Things turned bad and the trailer pushed me into our homemade trailer stand with enough force to make my leg explode. I take anticoagulants so was immediately aware of the precarious situation I was in, especially as the nearest mobile phone reception was at least 59m from where I found myself beneath the trailer.

I pulled the flesh of my leg back into position and pulled the leg of my tights down over this horrific wound and "walked" back to the front verandah of the house from where I could cal 000.

A first responder arrived followed by the ambulance and I was soon on my way to ARHC. Luckily for me, Dr Edward was on ED duty and I was in good hands. My leg was soon repaired with more than 204 stitches and staples and I was given stern instructions to keep my leg raised to help recovery and reduce the chance of losing my foot! 

I listened to Dr Edward's recommendations, spent some 14 weeks in a wheelchair and spent every hour with my leg elevated. 

Today, some 13.5 months later, the scar is looking amazing, I am back playing lawn bowls and have been selected to represent my league at an interleague competition this coming weekend. 

I still have an amount of pain but that is overshadowed by the fact that I still have my foot!
