"Emergency eye drops"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Dear Sydney Eye Hospital,

After visiting the emergency after hours, I was charged double the price for a bottle of Combigan from your department versus the recommended retail price.

Why?

Dear jivejz77,

Thank you for contacting us concerning the cost of the discharge medication you required after receiving treatment at the Emergency Department.

We are bound by the standard NSW Health dispensing fee when dispensing medications to patients on discharge. Your situation highlights the need for staff to disclose and discuss cost and an alternate option of sourcing the eye drops from a local pharmacy if appropriate. Your feedback will be shared with the staff in the Pharmacy and Emergency Departments.

Again thank you for your feedback. All the best.

Kind regards

Dr Pauline Rumma

Director of Clinical Services
