In my opinion, no one cares about a child who had been bitten by a dog and had holes in their leg and was bleeding. Outraged is an understatement.
When we approached the first triage nurse, we were, of course, in full panic as we have never been around or heard of anyone close to us being bitten by a dog so this is new, as well as the fact that we are from northeast VIC (country) not here in Melbourne.
The triage nurse told us its not that big of a deal and wrapped it in bandages and told us to wait in the waiting room for a doctor. 45 minutes later I asked why we hadn't been seen yet and the staff members on front reception told me they are busy out the back and we just have to wait.
Another 20 minutes later I asked again and they said that priority people need to be seen first, which I would think a toddler with a bite and 2 holes in their leg would be a priority.
A total of 1 hour and 30 minutes we waited to be seen. By the way, the waiting room was empty.
After all that, when we did finally get in to see a doctor, my toddler was transferred to another hospital because they would have to go into theatre and be put under anaesthetic to have the wound cleaned out.
I believe the staff on reception at Ferngully (Angliss Hospital) didn't seem to care nor did they help at all trying to reassure 2 very upset adults and a very upset child.
