"1 person rule in ED"

About: Mount Druitt Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My eldest child had to go to Mt Druitt hospital due to a suspected broken foot, luckily was just badly bruised and sprained.

Upon arrival, me and my partner (who is currently pregnant) were told only 1 of us could go in with our child. Our issue with this was I was carrying them as my partner cannot due to being pregnant. Our child is nearly a teenager and is slightly taller than my partner. They let me take our child into the waiting room and put them into a chair but then I had to leave and wait outside during a storm for them to finish 4 hours later.

My partner is still suffering morning sickness so if they had to run to the bathroom to be sick for any length of time our child would have been alone and possibly called.

When finished, I believe they expected my partner (as they didn't seem to care if I was still around), to take my child outside, put them into the car and then run back with the wheelchair leaving our child alone in the car.

I understand it is not a current normal time we live in with covid 19 but if we are relaxing the rules and learning to live with this new disease, surely, in my opinion, they can use common sense and use their judgement on only 1 person rule.

I also couldn't go with my partner for the ultrasound to find out what our baby is going to be and who knows how much time I will be allowed to spend with them when our baby is born while in hospital.

The nurses stated all NSW hospitals still have this current rule in place.
