"How Lives Lived Well saved me"

About: Lives Lived Well - Toowoomba

(as a service user),

I was going through a custody battle, my child was being withheld from me for over a year for no reason and their other parent was just putting me through all the loopholes possible.

I was attending counselling sessions with Mae from Lives Lived Well in Toowoomba, QLD. I was at my ends wits ready to just give up completely on life and honestly ready to do myself in, I couldn't bear the pain of not being part of my child's life any longer and honestly couldn't see it getting any better anytime soon ( at this point in time I had been a weed smoker for 11 years of my life). I had totally shut myself off from the world and was just full of anger, rage and heartache. I was smoking and sleeping my life away slowly.

Mae could see me getting worse by the weeks, so she suggested I join the Addiction of Drugs 3-week program they have running at Lives Lived Well to take back control and get a bit more structure in my life and to meet some like-minded people. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to or not but I knew she was right and something had to change. So that very day Mae had organised for me to meet one of the group leaders Sophie and we sat and chatted about what the program was all about and times etc.

The program starting day came around and I got up out of bed nervous as hell, got dressed and made one of the best decisions of my life and went to the program. Everyone there was just as nervous as me - the vibe was tense.

Mysti and Sophie the program leaders broke the ice with a card game, which we seemed to all find insightful and enjoyed and it brought us all back down to earth.

That 3-week program was just what I needed in my life at the right time. It was such an eye-opening experience, was very educational and so helpful in so many ways. By the end of the programs I was no longer a weed smoker, it was like a reborn experience in itself, and the program leaders Mysti and Sophie were simply lifesavers. They were so helpful to all in every way possible, and I own them two women my life for helping me and encouraging me and reminding me why I was there and what I was doing this for and helping me achieve something I had been wanting to do for many years, and for making me the best mother I can possibly be for my child.

Hello Earth Lover,

Thank you for putting your story out there and describing in such eloquent detail the desolate place you were at, including the challenges you faced due to custody matters, when you came to Lives Lived Well's (LLW) Office in Toowoomba - that sense of I can't go on, being dead would be a relief and your life ebbing away in smoke and sleep. While these words communicate a lot, there is also so much they can't express and yet you have put it out for others to see. Thank you for your decision to do so.

I want to acknowledge your efforts to come to LLW; in listening to Mae; speaking with Sophie; being open to trying something else; in getting out of bed and coming to the three week day-program. All these steps and all the other 'little' steps in between and along the way take so much courage, perseverance and patience. You have done all this.

Thank you, too, for your acknowledgement of LLW, of Mae, of Sophie and Mysti and the way you were able to be open with them to hear your story and also to receive the support they have been able to give to you. I will pass on your comments to them and the LLW Team in Toowoomba.

It is great to hear the program has enabled so many changes in your life and you are able to see yourself and your life in a new way; and for enabling you to be the best mother you can be for your child. Thank you for sharing those details too.

I wish you all the best in the days and months ahead. Keep in touch with LLW. If we can be of further support in your journey, please contact us.

Warm regards

Gerard

Update posted by Earth lover (a service user)

Thank you Gerard for your response and kind words, I was only speaking the truth, it was confronting to put it out in public but it needed to be done because in my opinion, I know I'm not the only one out there feeling this way, and if it was possible for me to share what lives lived well have helped me achieve and the support they have given me I definitely want others to know that there is always help out there no matter what stage of life you're in, you just have to reach out for it.
