"Left feeling disrespected and upset"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Today I was left feeling disrespected and upset regarding the interactions that I had with my Dr in the MFAU ward at KEMH. I was booked in for an ECV which was unsuccessful at no fault of the doctors. When my Dr came back in to discuss my further options, they seemed to have already made my decision for me, they had written in my book that I had agreed to have a c section at 39 which was untrue as this was without a discussion or me giving consent.

I felt the Dr was extremely rude and when I asked for time to think and to have a further discussion and was told they were too busy and didn’t have time for that. They then seemed to storm out of my room in the ward leaving me shocked and upset.

Dear guidetm46,

I appreciate the time you have taken to raise your concerns regarding your birthing experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS).

I am sorry to read that you were left feeling shocked and upset after the Doctor that visited you was rude to you. Here at KEMH, informed consent and care planning are taken very seriously. We would like the opportunity to discuss this important issue with you, so that we can investigate your concerns and provide you with a more specific response. Should you wish for this to occur, you can contact the KEMH Consumer Liaison Department (08) 6458 1444 to arrange this.

WNHS strives to always provide quality, patient centred care and I would like to apologise to you once again that this was not your experience with our service.

I would like to wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Regards

Jodi Graham
