"My experience with individual counselling"

About: Lives Lived Well - Toowoomba

(as a service user),

When I first accessed LLW services, I was anxious about opening up to someone I didn't know, sharing my confidential life experiences. When I first started working with Mae, I felt connected and more relaxed to open up, which encouraged me to continue on my recovery journey, despite knowing how difficult the days ahead might be.

Through many sessions and conversations, I started to realise that I wasn't alone and that I was capable of making a change for myself and that that change would be sustainable long term. I was able to recognise that I had a voice in treatment and that I could carry that voice into my own recovery.

I would encourage anyone seeking help with drug/alcohol counselling to take that first step towards change in yourself.

Hello Recovering Alcoholic,

Thank you for your comments about attending Lives Lived Well's Toowoomba Office and the work you were able to do with Mae.

It is a big step to open up the reality of our lives to another and be transparent with them and also ourselves. It is a step that involves real courage and that asks to be repeated day after day until the changes we want to make become a new pattern. It is great when we find someone to do that with. Thank you for your acknowledgement of Mae, of her ability to create a space where you felt connected and relaxed enough to open up, and of the work you did together. I will pass on your comments to her.

It is very powerful to hear you say that you realised you had a voice in treatment and that led you to the realisation you could carry your voice into recovery. You had not only a voice but also a capacity to change and make changes that could continue into the future.

Thank you for putting that out there for us here at LLW and to the wider community. Thank you, too, for recommending LLW services to other people.

I wish you all the best in the days and months ahead.

Warm regards

Gerard
