"Treatment of spinal patients"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Clinical Sciences Building 1W - Spinal Unit Prince of Wales Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was admitted to emergency department pending an operation.

I was transferred to 4 different wards while waiting for my surgery.

I feel you can never get into the spinal ward. So you are told by the nurses you will get turned when they have time as there are very ill patients to attend to. You are left in bed to go to the toilet as they can't take you there. To have the prep for bowel care you have to wait for someone to come from spinal ward to do it. In my opinion, makes you feel like a second class citizen. We go in with no pressure areas and I feel lucky to come home ok. I have been trained to do the right thing but you are shown that you are a pain for ringing the buzzer. I feel there should be some beds available in spinal ward for patients who need short term surgery. I always dread the mention of hospital for as I know what I am up against.
