Gave birth to baby here last year... Didn't have major complications during pregnancy but birthing was where it all went wrong with multiple complications... I am grateful to all the staff (doctors, nurses, midwives, catering and cleaning staff) that helped me during my stay here and may have probably died if the complications went overlooked.
I seem to have acquired a reoccurring infection from the hospital that my GP can't seem to work out which took me a long time to come to terms with.
In my opinion, the hospital is severely underfunded, staff are overworked and underpaid for their work due to the political nature of public healthcare. I did not know it at the time but from my admission and subsequent research, it seems apparent to me that this hospital and probably many others are not getting the funding it truly needs to provide optimal healthcare.
I believe doctors, nurses and Midwives on the ward are severely overloaded with patients, and a shortage of beds seems to be a reoccurring theme.
I feel midwives giving conflicting information also made it difficult to build trust for the patient who has no clue on caring for a first newborn. This coupled with sleep deprivation made it hard to make an informed decision on caring for a newborn.
Overall grateful to all the staff here for the work they do is amazing whilst, in my opinion, putting up with things outside of their control, keep it up.
"Amazing staff working in difficult circumstances"
