"Basic nursing care"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Stomach, Bowel and Liver Care (Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

(as the patient),

I was admitted by ambulance in the early hours one morning to the emergency department. The 2 ambulance officers were fantastic. Very professional and compassionate.

After being in the corridor for only a few minutes I was taken into the Emergency cubicles very quickly and seen by nurses and several doctors. I can highly recommend the service I was given as a private patient.  Everybody did their job well.

I only have one complaint whilst being on level six in the gastro ward. I was given many intravenous injections. One of which was potassium. This was very painful. I rang the bell for a nurse to come. It rang continuously for a good 40 minutes. I called a nurse that was passing the room and they asked another nurse on the 6th Floor that was supposed to be my nurse for the afternoon shift to give me a heat bag for the pain it was causing me. The nurse went into the storeroom and came out without it.  That is my complaint.  That the nurse didn't carry through when asked to their duty of care to me.

I was very happy with the service of care from Mr Dieter and his team of doctors.

Dear Carnh99,

Thank you for your kind words about the care and treatment provided to you by staff at Royal Perth Hospital during your recent presentation to the Emergency Department and Gastroenterology Ward. Your feedback assures us that our staff are continuing to provide a high quality, efficient and patient-centred approach in their delivery of service, which we have come to expect at the Royal Perth Bentley Group.

I am so pleased to hear you were provided such professional and efficient service during what must have been a stressful experience for you. It is always lovely to hear when staff have left a positive impression and I am glad that Dr Dieter Weber and his team made a real difference to your experience as a patient.

I was sad to hear of your experience on the Gastroenterology Ward and apologise that you felt the staff did not take care to ensure you were comfortable and attend to following multiple injections. We will share your feedback with the ward as we are always keen to learn when we do not achieve the high standard of care we aspire to.

You are welcome to contact the Consumer Engagement Unit on phone 9224 1636, 8 am to 4 pm working days or email RPBG.Feedback@health.wa.gov.au if you wish to speak to someone about your concerns.

I hope your recovery is progressing well and wish you all the best for the year ahead.

Kind Regards,

Dr Lesley Bennett

Executive Director
