"Breastfeeding service KEMH"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as a parent/guardian),

I want to write about my experience so far with the breastfeeding centre at KEMH as I just cannot fault the staff there.

I am 2 weeks postpartum and have a preterm baby who has been struggling to feed (from the breast and bottle). It is my dream to be able to breastfeed and I have felt a lot of stress and guilt due to the fact that my baby is struggling with feeding.

I have had a phone appointment and a physical appointment with Emiko and I just felt so at ease with her, she had so many tips and really cared about my situation. I am impressed with the time spent by her to help us, and the follow-up service that has been offered to my partner and me regarding our daughter's improvement.

This is an extremely valuable service and I can’t believe it is all free. If I couldn’t have contacted the breastfeeding centre I think it would have been very difficult for me to continue to try to breastfeed as it’s actually a very complicated thing (which I didn’t realise until I had my baby).

This service is brilliant and the staff are so lovely and so helpful. My confidence in being able to feed my baby has grown so much in just 2 appointments.

Dear Mumofone,

I would like to extend my congratulations to you on the birth of your child.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Breast Feeding Centre at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). Our staff at the Breast Feeding Centre are dedicated to helping new mothers breastfeed successfully.

Breastfeeding can sometimes be challenging, but with determination and perseverance along with the individual attention of our Lactation Consultants (LC), we aim to empower and support women to enjoy the experience of breastfeeding. I am happy to hear that Emiko shared her knowledge, skills and tips and has helped your confidence grow and this will allow you to successfully breastfeed.

We are very proud of our staff in the Breast Feeding Centre and the service they provide. Our staff are committed to this service and this is a true testament of the collaborative approach with baby and mother to achieve such positive results.

Thank you once again for your feedback. I will be sure to send on your kind words to Emiko and all staff involved. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Dr Matthew Skinner
