"Breastfeeding woes"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Breastfeeding Centre of WA

(as a service user),

I am a new mother and was at a loss in regards to breastfeeding and other issues surrounding my newborn baby. They have a tongue tie and I just had a massive postpartum haemorrhage that required blood transfusion and my milk supply was not enough. The breastfeeding center was really helpful. They would return my calls in regards to my queries as there was a point in time I was very emotional to how I will feed my baby and how I will approach the tongue tie issues. Jo, the consultant who I spoke with over the phone spent time in talking to me and educating me over the phone whilst my appointment with the center is still a few weeks away. When I finally got to the center and was assessed for techniques in breastfeeding, I felt reassured that I was doing a good job and just needs more practice in certain techniques.

Dear giftts75,

I would like to extend my congratulations to you on the birth of your child.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Breast Feeding Centre at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). Our staff at the Breast Feeding Centre are dedicated to helping new mothers breastfeed successfully. It is lovely to hear that you were able to get the advice and support you needed until you were able to attend the centre in person.

We are very proud of our staff in the Breast Feeding Centre and the service they provide. Our staff are committed to this service and this is a true testament of the collaborative approach with baby and mother to achieve such positive results.

Thank you once again for your feedback. I will be sure to send on your kind words to Jo and all staff involved.

Regards

Dr Matthew Skinner
