We visited Sydney Eye Hospital for removal of a dense cataract under general anaesthetic for my partner who is surviving despite the debilitating effects of a terminal brain tumour and associated cognitive and motor function deficicits.
I would like to compliment and thank all the staff associated with my partner's surgery late last year. It had been almost twelve months from our initial consultation with the surgeon. Covid19 had halted all surgery for months and the process of preparing for surgery was slow and time-consuming because of my partner's condition.
We were greeted cheerfully by the thermometer-wielding door lady and from here things got better and better! Jill went through our pre-op questionnaire in a friendly yet professional manner. AlI interactions with all staff, whether pre-op, post-op or at discharge and throughout the day were hassle-free and all nursing staff super helpful and friendly.
I had the impression that nothing was too much trouble. This was confirmed when we were supplied with Thickener for my partner's water even though I had not specifically asked for it. I had mentioned that they normally drink thickened water to prevent choking. When I was unable to contact my GP for a post-op referral to the surgeon's rooms, one of the nurses pursued it on my behalf! (I am sorry that I cannot remember her name).
All these kind and small actions made such an enormous difference. Thank you one and all. My partner's vision in one eye at least is fantastic and has already had a profound impact.
