"No care in ED"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child was having a very sick tummy, painful, dizzy, heart raised, rashes appears etc came to Box Hill Hospital, have been told to wait for 4 hours. After 2 hours, my child was complaining about being very sick, nausea, I went to the nurse who said, nothing much they can do but wait for 6 hours. Then I've been told not many doctors, there are 25 people which is a very long queue that night they said. It was now early hours of the morning, we were still waiting to be looked after, but no one came. It is very cold here, no water serving and it doesn't feel like a safe or care place for patience at all in my opinion. Assume they have no doctor at all! Some people left... some old people wait and wait from 11pm to the morning still waiting... I think it's ridiculous.

Why don't they advise them to go home and rest then come back in the morning or a doctor could simply go around patient to patient and check who needed first etc. Can't believe we all have to sit here through the night wait for no answer but wait! We would have just come back after a good rest at least, why keep everyone here waiting for no consideration nor duty of care. So tired, so sleepy, so sick, so painful so inhuman in my opinion, to keep us suffering here!

Dear lynxzf44

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share your experience when attending the Emergency Department at Eastern Health's Box Hill Hospital. I am sorry it was not a positive one but I certainly hope your child has improved from the issues that caused you to attend in the first place.

You have raised a number of issues that I would be keen to understand in more detail. While it is clear the Emergency Department was very busy at the time you and your child attended, your inability to obtain information is an example of these issues.

In order for us to follow up your particular circumstances, I would like to invite you to contact one of our Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience either by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. If you choose to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.

I really value your comments and feedback as we are committed to making improvements in our care and services. I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards

David
