"Maternity ward"

About: Blacktown Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth to my baby at Blacktown hospital. On the first night, there was a midwife who I felt was very inconsiderate. I was on bed rest because of having a c-section and needed help with the baby, so I pressed the bell to ask help as my partner who hadn’t slept for 24 hrs fell asleep.

When the midwife (didn’t get the name, unfortunately) attended my room I asked them to help me change my baby’s nappy as my partner is asleep and I can’t reach the baby. They very rudely commented that the support person is there to help, not to sleep. The conversation woke my partner and so the midwife left the room and never came back. I had to guide my partner on how to change the nappy and swaddle the baby.

This experience left me and my partner very disappointed as apart from this particular midwife, all of the other midwives who took care of me for the duration of 48 hrs were very helpful and passionate about what they’re doing.
