"Poor healthcare treatment"

About: Joondalup Health Campus

(as a service user),

My spouse had been in bed for the last few days with severe migraine and vomiting. They are getting worse by the following morning. They have started seizures when lying on their right side. I was now very worried. I booked them an appointment at the medical centre.

Soonest I could get was 12 o'clock. Doctor did a couple of tests and got my spouse to lie on their right hand side. They began to have a seizure and doctor was very concerned with their findings!

Numb hands and burst blood vessels in their eyes. Doctor immediately referred us to Joondalup campus and said to my spouse you are very unwell and you are going to have to go and be admitted to hospital! I rushed my spouse to Joondalup to be seen where I issued the department with a referral letter outlining the seriousness of the matter! I waited there for 4 hours with my spouse who is in pain when sat up. They cried and requested to leave as they cannot sit sat up any longer. I told the nurse I was going to take my spouse home to try and comfort them. The nurse was concerned I believe, that I was going to leave and told me to go through and I will find them a bed.

Great, my spouse was given a bed to finally rest themselves. Not even 10 mins go by and some extremely rude nurse, I felt, comes in and literally threw my spouse out of the bed they were in. I’m not joking I believe the nurse didn’t even know what was wrong with my spouse or care! We were told to return to the waiting room. By this stage, I was more than angry. I told the nurse my spouse was that unwell they had gone to lie down in the car. I could not bare to see my spouse in this state any longer. I was desperate of where to turn.

I returned my spouse to the medical centre and got seen as an emergency case! I have asked them for referral scans and pain relief. Scans were done recently.

I am totally disgusted at what I believe to be the neglect and lack of care and shear rudeness under these uncertain times! If I get nowhere through a complaint with this email. I feel social media will be more than interested.

Dear migraine horror,

I was very concerned to read your story on Care Opinion and am sorry that this was your partner’s experience. It is difficult to have to wait for extended periods of time, particularly when in significant pain and distress. Your account is very troubling, particularly your understanding that your partner was treated poorly while attending our facility. Please be assured that I take concerns such as this extremely seriously.

Joondalup Health Campus would really like the opportunity to explore the concerns that you have raised. So that we can do this, I would greatly appreciate it if you could contact our consumer liaison service on 08 9400 9672 or by email at consumerliaison.jhc@ramsayhealth.com.au.

Joondalup Health Campus is committed to listening and learning from the experiences of our patients and their families and would welcome your call.

I hope that your partner was able to receive the necessary medical treatment and that they are feeling much better.

Yours sincerely

Paul Taylor-Byrne
